My Review:

Abraham Lincoln has always been one of my favorite presidents. I couldn’t help but be interested in a book that sheds even further light onto the last days of his life. This book was entertaining and though provoking. While it won’t be for everyone, it was something I was glad to have read. My main takeaway were:

-You leave a legacy when you die. Make sure you are remembered well.

I realize some will not read this book mainly because of who the author is. However, if you can get past your dislike for Bill O’Reilly you will enjoy the best kind of storytelling: True History.

From Amazon:

A riveting historical narrative of the heart-stopping events surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the first work of history from mega-bestselling author Bill O’Reilly

The anchor of The O’Reilly Factor recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history—how one gunshot changed the country forever. In the spring of 1865, the bloody saga of America’s Civil War finally comes to an end after a series of increasingly harrowing battles. President Abraham Lincoln’s generous terms for Robert E. Lee’s surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln’s dream of healing a divided nation, with the former Confederates allowed to reintegrate into American society. But one man and his band of murderous accomplices, perhaps reaching into the highest ranks of the U.S. government, are not appeased.

In the midst of the patriotic celebrations in Washington D.C., John Wilkes Booth—charismatic ladies’ man and impenitent racist—murders Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre. A furious manhunt ensues and Booth immediately becomes the country’s most wanted fugitive. Lafayette C. Baker, a smart but shifty New York detective and former Union spy, unravels the string of clues leading to Booth, while federal forces track his accomplices. The thrilling chase ends in a fiery shootout and a series of court-ordered executions—including that of the first woman ever executed by the U.S. government, Mary Surratt. Featuring some of history’s most remarkable figures, vivid detail, and page-turning action, Killing Lincoln is history that reads like a thriller.

Marathon Training: Week 5

Week Five… DONE!

Quote-

Each week I try to find one inspirational quote that keeps me motivated. This week it was a quote from my very own daughter. She said, “Daddy I want to run a 5k with you.” She’s 6 and she has noticed how much her father enjoys running. That was motivation enough to finish the marathon. If my running inspires her to be active and run… wow.

Musings-

Cold and rainy. The whole way through my long run this week I was dodging rain but it was still good. Have to admit running on a treadmill for most of these training runs has been tough though. I’ll be glad in about another month when the weather begins to warm a little. At least int the 50s.

This Week’s Training Schedule and Results:

FAST FINISH RUN 1– 4 miles (3.5  easy + .5 moderately hard)

FARTLEK RUN 2– Speed Training (3 miles)

FOUNDATION RUN 3– 4 miles

LONG- 8 miles

Total number of runs: 4
Total mileage: 19 mile

A Letter to RLC>>>

Hello RLC!
What a great weekend we have had together. This past Sunday was a true joy. Thank you to everyone for making it such a great success.

As we move into this week, here are a few things to share with you:

1. TOXIC 2- TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS. As the New Year continues to take shape many of us at RLC have captured a “ONE THING”, a God-sized VISION for our lives in 2014. Getting an idea for what this is. The next step is identifying possible pitfalls and hijackers which will try to sabotage our progress. To do this we began a new series entitled TOXIC. In Part 1 we focused on dealing with TOXIC THOUGHTS. This past Sunday, we moved on to MANAGING TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS.  As the Body of Christ on the Earth it’s important to realize we are not suppose to hide under a bed somewhere and wait for the return of Christ. That ‘escapism’ doctrine has no place a church called to make disciples of the nations. However Paul said, “Bad company corrupts good character.”
Where’s the middle ground on this? That’s the true rub of the whole situation.
Check out the RLC | PODCAST to discover how to manage Toxic Relationships. RLC | Podcast from the RLC website here.

21214. MIND | SOUL | BODY.

(1 Thessalonians 5:23) “Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.”

This past Sunday began our 21 Day Challenge we’re calling MIND | SOUL | BODY. The idea is to not only honor God with the first fruits of your year by fasting but incorporating everything in your life. For more information on this check out this link.

The first seven days we focused on reading the Word of God in an aggressive way.
If you haven’t made a decision yet, why not take the journey with RLC and read through your Bible this year. Learn more about that here.

The next seven days we are focusing on Disciplining our Bodies through fasting, namely the Daniel Fast. Check out more info on the Daniel Fast in two previous blog posts here and here.

dream-team-lunch 5. DREAM TEAM LAUNCH PARTY. It’s time to celebrate! We’ve had a great time this past year at Real Life Church.
