““So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.””Luke 6:46-49 NLT
I have heard people give objections concerning their relationship with God. When they get discouraged, they want to blame God for not being faithful. They don’t say it that way but that’s basically what they mean. Can I be honest with you? That has been me sometimes as well. I will say things like, “God, why are you not working one of your miracles? God, why is this not getting better? God, why did they do that to me?” In these moments, I want to question God’s faithfulness because I have this idea that all I have to do is show up and I automatically get a trophy. However, Jesus is answering this objection when we sometimes loose our footing in moments of crisis. He says that we activate the right foundation by listening and doing what He says. Think about it for a moment. God’s Word was not written for His benefit. It was right for ours. He is not saying this in a blaming sort of way. He is saying that He has the answer. If you have a question and go to google for the answer, you don’t feel offended that google pops up thousands of answers to your question. You don’t think google is being harsh or making fun of you for not knowing the answer. Therefore, when we go to God’s Word and it shows us how to live, don’t become offended. Realize it knows better than you and accept its help.
- Trust in God’s Word.
- Do what it says.
- Live my life knowing that God is completely FOR me so I can trust His divine direction.
“God help me to walk in the light of your Word today. Help me to realize Your Word is here to help me walk through the unknown terrain of this life.”
