My First Marathon Training—> The Beginning

Three years ago right after finishing my first half-marathon the plan was to immediately jump into marathon training.
Well time passed, things changed, and no marathon.

This year, I decided to make it finally happen. However before jumping right into a marathon I decided to get healthier and train for another half-marathon first. Three weeks ago that became a reality.

Now here we are.
Some people asked that I track my progress and post my journey somewhere. Here it is.

You can either read it straight from the front page of my blog or from the specific category page here.

I look forward to sharing my running stories, inspirational articles I find, and mainly just sharing the journey with you.

More to come soon.
Thanks for joining the ride. My sincere hope is that it will inspire someone else to try something they once thought of as impossible.

I love the quote, “The person who says something is impossible is usually knocked out of the way by the person doing it.”

Impossibility is a matter of perspective.

A Letter to RLC>>>

Hello RLC!
What a great weekend we have had together. I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving week.

As we move into this week, here are a few things to share with you:

1. PERSPECTIVE. This past Sunday we finished up an amazing series on the Power of Perspective. We walked through the story behind the Book of Philippians and how perspective can really change many things in our lives. To end this series we talked about a different perspective on worry.

Here are a few tweetable moments:

  • “Don’t worry about a thing… cause every little things gonna be alright.” -Bob Marley
  • Faith doesn’t absolve you of responsibility. It releases you of being the final authority.
  • I can go through anything and come out on the other side because of He who lives within me.

2. RLC | CONNECT. Don’t forget the number one way to stay up to date with all things are RLC is still RLC | CONNECT. That’s the weekly eNewsletter which releases on Friday mornings around 7:00am.

3. HOLIDAY WORSHIP EXPERIENCE TIME. Don’t forget that beginning next week and throughout the month of December there will be ONE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE at 10:00am. We’re excited to have everyone in one worship experience to celebrate the holidays together. For a good seat be sure to arrive early.

christmasatthemovies5. CHRISTMAS AT THE MOVIES. All throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry He would constantly use stories and illustrations to relate deeper spiritual principles. The great Mary Poppins said, “A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.” That’s what Christmas at the Movies is all about. At RLC we’re always looking for relevant and innovative ways to share the story of Christ. Over the next three weeks we’ll be doing it with some great Christmas classics. Check out the promo video below.

Hello RLC!
What a great weekend we have had together. So many WINS to celebrate.
Here are a few things I want to share with you as we move into this week…

As we move into this week, here are a few things to share with you:

1. PERSPECTIVE. This past Sunday had many high moments for me. One was continuing our series where we are talking about seeing our lives through different lenses. It’s so easy to have tunnel vision and see success through such a narrow scope. Having the right perspective can so crucial to understanding what God is doing in your life.

A couple of tweetable moments were:

  • “Success is when those who know you best love and respect you the most.” -John Maxwell
  • Being Christ-Like means thinking with the same motivation as Christ: Love God. Love others.
  • Happiness is on the outside. Joy is from the inside.

2. RLC | CONNECT. Don’t forget the number one way to stay up to date with all things are RLC is still RLC | CONNECT. That’s the weekly eNewsletter which releases on Friday mornings around 7:00am.

3. DISCOVER | YOUR PLACE. Discover Your Place is a strategic night designed for you to dig into who you are, how you are, and how God has made you to fit into Real Life Church.  Through an engaging, hands-on process, you’ll discover your strengths, weaknesses, passions, and giftings, and explore how those things combine perfectly to create a ministry place for you!  You will leave enlightened, equipped, and inspired to take your place in the Body of Christ! *Dinner & Child Care Included!

4. BABY DEDICATION. This past Sunday was an amazing milestone at RLC. We celebrated life as we dedication three children to the Lord. This comes form 1 Samuel when Hannah dedicated her son Samuel back to God. It was an amazing moment for all of us. Below are some pics from this great event. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.

The Foundation of Failure

Amazing quote from J. k. Rowling as she speaks to Harvard University in 2008,

So why do I talk about the benefits of failure? Simply because failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.

New Series: Perspective

PERSPECTIVE: a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.

Not long ago I was waiting to walk across the street at a crosswalk. Suddenly a guy walks right past me and into the street. Without thinking I grab and push him back onto the sidewalk just in time before he was hit by an oncoming car.
He had been looking at his phone and didn’t realize what was happening or notice the car. All he knew was some guy just threw him down on the sidewalk. This guy jumps up and begins yelling at me to take it easy. Before I could speak, a lady who had been watching everything spoke up and said, “That guy just saved your life. You were about to be hit by a car.” This guy froze and you could see him begin to understand what really happened.  He quickly turned from angry to embarrassed and thankful because he began to look at the event from a different perspective.

How many things in our lives would we see differently if we only had a different perspective.

  • The loss of a job.
  • The loss of a relationship.
  • The addition of financial trouble.
  • The added stress of the holidays.
  • Those 25 extra pounds we said we’d never gain back.

Here are a few key thoughts we’re going to begin discussing beginning this Sunday at Real Life Church:

Perception is the key to so many issues in our lives.
There’s so much more going on than we usually see. It takes a different perception to understand a lot of it.

Bad perception is the key to most conflict in our lives.
Most conflict comes from misunderstands or the inability to objectively look at a situation from other points of view. We’re going to discover how Jesus as a master communicator constantly used various parables and stories to relate the same spiritual truth from different perspectives.

Correct perception can be the key to your success.
Concerning my intimidation of others, lady once told me, “If they kill you they can’t eat you.” What she meant was, “What’s the worst that can happen if you at least try?”  Having the right mindset when you are going through a tough situation is critical.

Understand the WHY behind the WHAT.
Sometimes it’s better to not take things at face value. Understanding why something is the way it is can help you appreciate why you are doing it.

I’m looking forward to sharing this and so much more with you beginning this Sunday at RLC.

There’s going to be a lot of TWEETABLE moments for us to share.
