Don’t Stoop to Whining

‘This is how God answered me: “Take back those words, and I’ll take you back. Then you’ll stand tall before me. Use words truly and well. Don’t stoop to cheap whining. Then, but only then, you’ll speak for me. ” Jeremiah 15:19-20

Just before the verse above, Jeremiah spends a great deal of time laying out how hard his job is as a prophet. He even he says that his parents must be embarrassed because he is their son. Finally God answers and literally says to take those words back. He challenges Jeremiah to not cower down and feel low. Rather, he is to stand tall and use his words to build up and make a difference. He even says to not “stoop to cheap whining.” How many times do we spend all our effort telling ourselves, God, and anyone who will listen how bad things are. We talk about how bad we are, how bad the circumstances are, and how much worse it’s likely to get. God’s Word for you today is simple…

“Don’t stoop to cheap whining.”

It does not cost much to criticize yourself or others. It is much more ‘expensive’ to stand up and do something about the situation you are in. You have to pay the price of your comfort and your ability to continue giving excuses. However, sometimes the only way out is through. God’s Word says to stop whining. You’re too good for that. There’s more in you than you realize. Get up and start moving forward.

Today, we will:

  • Not give in to the temptation to whine.
  • I will realize that the presence of problems does mean the absence of God.
  • I will not look for a reason to complain but a reason to hope.
  • Get up, dust off, and move forward.

Today, help me to see that you are close. Help me to guard my mouth against whining, complaining, or only focusing on the negative in my life. Today is a great day because You have made it. Today, I am one step closer to becoming everything you created me to be.
