““I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”John 14:27 NLT
When I was a kid, Christmas was my favorite time. I couldn’t understand why my parents didn’t feel the same way once it was over. It seemed as though they could not wait for school to start again. They would even say things like, “If you don’t behave, we’re taking all your presents back to the store.” I believed them too. Now that I am a parent, I understand. As a kid, I was rambunctious and the only way they could help me understand the need to be good was to threaten taking back their gifts. That’s fine but so many of us think that Jesus is the same way. He has given us so many precious promises and we think that at the slightest misstep, He’s waiting to punish us and take everything back. That’s the Heart of God. He loves you and has already made His decision about you. He’s decided to love you and not take away His gifts. We, on the other hand, can walk away from His promises or not activate them in our lives just like a child can put their Christmas present down and walk away from it. However, that’s our choice not His.
- I will pick up any promises I have laid down.
- I will lay down any lies I have picked up.
- I will trust God and turn toward His promises.
“Today, I trust You and your gift of peace.”
