Medicine For Worry

    Anxiety weighs down the heart,
but a kind word cheers it up.

    Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)

I had a friend one time who bought a weighted vest. He was planning to use it to exercise in because… well… he’s crazy like that. I put on this 25 pound vest and immediately realized he was in much better shape than I was. It was amazing difficult even the most simple things became. Tying my shoes became a real hassle. Walking around the room was tiring. I started to breathe heavy when I was even trying to take the thing off.

To me, that’s what anxiety is like. It’s makes even the most simple things difficult. It takes little tasks like planning your week, talking to a friend, or going to work seem like scaling a mountain. However, the Bible says there’s some great medicine to ease anxiety. God could do this alone but He has decided to give us the cure as well. This miracle cure is… kind words. Kind words can come in the form of sincere compliments, an encouragement, or maybe just a gentle answer. Kindness is an Underrated superpower. Try it and see what happens.

    • I will give what I wish to receive.
    • I will text someone I know something encouraging.
    • I will call someone and be encouraging.
    • I will watch my words.

“God, help me to remember how powerful my words can be. Help me to bring healing and not harm today.”
