“For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 1:9 NLT
When Paul is writing to his student Timothy, he is doing what all teachers do… teach. Even in his greeting he reaffirming earlier lessons. This verse reminds Timothy that God did more than save us, which would be enough, but also called us to follow after Him by living a holy life. I think we tend to forget that sometimes. We celebrate that God saved us and then receive that salvation. Then, we go about our business as if everything is the same. That’s actually not true at all. The gift of salvation is not the end of the journey but just the beginning. It’s after we receive salvation that learn there’s more to life than just surviving. We get to live in the Kingdom of God, become more like Christ, and make a difference with our lives. It’s a holy life. A life in God’s Kingdom.
- Take time learning what life in the Kingdom of God looks like. We can only find that by reading God’s Word.
- Take time to celebrate that God does not save us and leave us alone but stays with us through the rest of the journey.
Help me, God, to live my life in a way that gets closer to you every day.
