Why do we seem to “pick and choose” which Old Testament laws to follow?
I get this questions ALL THE TIME from both critics and confused Christians. On the surface, I admit it can look like we sometimes pick and choose what to follow in the Old Testament. One part says to not eat shellfish or trim your sideburns while another says to honor your parents. One of the problems is not understanding that all these commands by God were not in one list like the 10 commandments. They were broken up into different types for different reasons: Civil, Moral, Ceremonial. Remember, the Old Testament is a collect of books. There’s a lot in there for a lot of different reasons. They don’t all carry the same weight because they are all there for different reasons.
