Good Friday: The Cross and the Cost (Easter Week)

On this page
Introduction

Good Friday is the darkest day in history—and the most beautiful. On this day, Jesus was betrayed, beaten, mocked, and nailed to a Roman cross. The Son of God took on the full weight of our sin. He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities. The sky grew dark, the earth shook, and Jesus cried out, “It is finished.” This is the day love was poured out in blood.

Where Was Jesus & What Was He Doing?

Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane in the early hours, taken through a series of unjust trials, and finally sentenced to death by crucifixion. He was beaten, crowned with thorns, and forced to carry His cross through the streets of Jerusalem to Golgotha. There, He was crucified between two criminals and died after six agonizing hours. His final words were a cry of victory: “It is finished” (John 19:30).

How Can We Worship the Lord Today?

Worship today in reverent silence and gratitude. Remember the cross. Let the reality of Christ’s suffering stir awe in your heart. Read the crucifixion story slowly and prayerfully. Sing or listen to worship songs that focus on the cross. Let your heart be broken by sin—and healed by His grace.
