Saturday of Holy Week is quiet. The crowds are gone. The cross is empty. The body of Jesus lies in a sealed tomb. For the disciples, this was a day of sorrow, confusion, and waiting. What they didn’t know was that even in the silence, God was still working. Saturday reminds us that when we can’t see what God is doing, He is still moving behind the scenes. Resurrection is coming.
Where Was Jesus & What Was He Doing?
Jesus’ body was in the tomb, wrapped in linen and spices, guarded by Roman soldiers (Matthew 27:57–66). His followers were scattered, confused, and grieving. While Scripture doesn’t record many details about this day, tradition holds that it was a day of rest for the Jews as they observed the Sabbath. For the disciples, it was likely a time of deep reflection and despair.
How Can We Worship the Lord Today?
Worship through stillness and trust. Let today be a reminder that faith is not just for the mountaintops, but also for the valleys and waiting rooms. Honor God by embracing quiet and remembering that He works in the silence. Rest, reflect, and let your heart hold onto hope—even if you don’t yet see the answer.
Next Steps in Light of Holy Week
- Practice a Sabbath Rest: Unplug from technology. Slow down. Let your soul breathe.
- Meditate on Hope: Read Psalm 27 or Lamentations 3 and reflect on God’s faithfulness in seasons of silence.
- Encourage Someone: Reach out to a friend who may be in a season of waiting or sorrow. Remind them that God is near.
