Holy Thursday: The Last Supper and Love in Action (Easter Week)

On this page
Introduction

Thursday of Holy Week is sacred. On this evening, Jesus gathered with His disciples to share the Passover meal—what we now call the Last Supper. But this wasn’t just a farewell dinner. Jesus washed feet, broke bread, shared the cup, predicted betrayal, and gave a new command: “Love one another as I have loved you.” It was an evening of humility, teaching, and deep love. Though the shadow of the cross was near, Jesus chose to serve.

Where Was Jesus & What Was He Doing?

Jesus was in the Upper Room in Jerusalem with His disciples. He celebrated Passover and instituted the Lord’s Supper, saying, “Do this in remembrance of Me” (Luke 22:19). He also stooped low to wash their feet (John 13:1–17), teaching that greatness comes through service. Later that night, He went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray in agony, surrendering fully to the Father’s will.

How Can We Worship the Lord Today?

Worship today by remembering Jesus’ sacrifice and by imitating His love. If possible, participate in communion, either with others or personally. Reflect on His humility and love, and consider how you can serve those around you. Let your worship today be expressed through compassion, generosity, and quiet obedience.

Next Steps in Light of Holy WeeK

  • Worship Through Receiving Communion: Whether at a church service or at home, partake in the Lord’s Supper and reflect on its meaning.
  • Serve Others: Wash dishes. Make a meal. Speak a kind word. Do something humble that honors Jesus’ servant heart.
  • Pray in Surrender: Follow Jesus’ example in Gethsemane—pray honestly and say, “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
