Welcome to the Friday Field Guide!
Hello friends.
There used to be an old TV show called Dragnet. I wouldn't be surprised if you have not heard of it. If you have, you're old... just like me.
Dragnet was a classic detective show with a big case that needed to be solved immediately. One of the detectives on the case would always have to interview someone who would start "oversharing" to move the case along. The lead detective would eventually have to bring whomever back on track by saying, "Just the facts, please." Sometimes, he would start the interview by saying, "Please, ma'am, just the facts." In doing this, the detective was saying...
- There is something important happening.
- I'm in a hurry.
- Please skip all the good details and give me only the crucial details.
- I need it short, to the point, no fluff.
When I think about the world we live in right now, we could use this same concept when it comes to God's Word. I love to study deeply, but I also need something I can use right now. Life comes at us so fast. I need something that gets to the point. Give me doorways into more, but I need something useful and practical... like... now.
If you're like me, the page below is being made with you in mind. My new "Bible Study Page" is coming along, one book of the Bible at a time. The goal is to provide resources to dive deeper into God's Word, no matter what book of the Bible you are interested in. As you can tell, I have a while to go in the Old Testament. But the New Testament is almost done.
The goal of this page is to be helpful, so PLEASE tell me if you see anything that would make it more useful. I look forward to hearing your feedback by emailing me here.
To all my RLC family...

🖤 My Facouldgs This Week
🕺 Men Only - Success Starts with How You Think. This is a great interview with Michael Hyatt. I have always enjoyed his ideas. He shares that success is a mindset and not a destination. They say Thomas Edison failed over 1,000 times to make the light bulb. When someone asked how he handled so many failures, he said he didn't fail. He discovered 1,000 ways it wouldn't work. That's a good mindset.
News Worth Sharing! What's Going On At Asbury University? "No big lights or big media or anything like that. It's proof the Lord is working. Right now. Amazing to see. We just wanted to be a part of that desperately," said Aniston McClellan, who traveled from Nashville.
🤣 Impersonation Of Famous Preachers. Man, this guy is funny! The longer you have been around the church world, the funnier this guy will be. My favorite parts are his "flowing in the pathetic" and his impersonation of TD Jakes. It's so good.
3️⃣ 3 Keys Thriving in the New Normal- Is it just me or is life just... well... different since Covid? People act differently. Mental health seems to have become a bit angrier. What do we do? After many conversations, I have three ways to take back the word "normal." They are helping me. I hope they help you too.
📣 Leadership. The Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast. Pastor Craig Groeschel pastors the largest church in the United States. It is hard to get an accurate number at this point, but their attendance is around 100k! They have multiple locations and a massive online audience. The most amazing part is Pastor Craig started this church from nothing. He has my attention because he has been a part of this massive growth through all the different stages. Each of his monthly podcasts is solid gold. I highly recommend them all.
👀 Controversy. A Plea for Ministerial Clarity. Dr. Micahel Brown is one of my favorite Biblical scholars. In this article, he pleads for pastors to be more transparent about their stance on hot-button topics so the church knows what to believe and how to communicate these views gracefully. I will admit living in this tension is not easy. I know what the Bible says, the pain people experience, and the difficulty culture creates. Now is the time for clarity in truth with love.
📚Book of the Week- EvangJellyFish. This fascinating, fictional book leaves you wondering exactly where you fit in the story. Written by Pastor Douglas Wilson, he has fun teasing everyone in the Evangelical world. I'm honestly unsure if someone outside the ministry world will find this funny, frustrating, or slightly offensive. I'd love to hear your thoughts. It's a quick read. Tell me what you think.
🧐 Apologetics- 5 Reasons You Can Trust Your Bible. This is from last week's message notes. There are so many facts to prove the reliability of God's Word. Here are just a few.
🎧 Song of the Week- I Surrender. This week's song is from a Hillsong United and Lauren Daigle collab. I love the lyrics, "Like a rushing wind, Jesus breathes within. Lord, have your way in me."
✍️ Quote of the Week
You don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems. @JamesClear
🤪 Dad Joke of the week
I was going to quit all my bad habits for the new year.
But then I remembered that nobody likes a quitter.
😂 Funniest meme of the week
Hope you have a great weekend!
