Scripture:
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:13-14)
Leadership is Not a Title—It’s an Impact
Many people mistakenly think that leadership is reserved for CEOs, pastors, or those with a title. But John Maxwell reminds us that leadership is influence—nothing more, nothing less.
Jesus didn’t come with earthly titles or political power, yet no one has influenced the world more than He has. His leadership was not about control but about transformation. As His followers, we are called to be salt and light—people whose lives make an impact on those around them.
The question is not if you are a leader, but how you are leading. Whether you realize it or not, you influence your family, coworkers, church, and community. The real challenge is: Are you leading in a way that glorifies God?
How to Steward Your Influence Well
1. Lead with Integrity
“The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!” (Proverbs 20:7)
People may follow charisma for a season, but they follow character for a lifetime. Integrity means being the same person in private as you are in public. It means making decisions based on conviction rather than convenience. If we want to lead well, we must be trustworthy.
✅ Ask yourself: Am I living in a way that I would want others to follow?
2. Invest in People, Not Just Results
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” (Hebrews 10:24)
Jesus invested in His disciples. He didn’t just tell them what to do—He lived with them, ate with them, and walked alongside them. Great leaders don’t just demand results; they develop people.
If you are a leader, you must ask: Am I making time to mentor and encourage others? Your influence grows not by what you accomplish but by the people you equip to lead after you.
✅ Ask yourself: Who are the three people I am intentionally investing in right now?
3. Use Your Words to Build, Not Break
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” (Proverbs 18:21)
Leaders shape the culture of their team, home, or church through their words. Encouragement fuels people to grow, while criticism without grace crushes their spirit. Jesus often spoke words of life, calling out potential in people others overlooked.
✅ Challenge: This week, intentionally speak life into someone by affirming their strengths and potential.
Action Steps for Growth:
1. Identify Three People You Influence. Whether it’s your family, coworkers, or friends, take note of who is watching and following your example.
2. Develop a Daily Habit of Adding Value. Ask, How can I serve and encourage someone today? Small acts of kindness, wisdom, and support go a long way.
3. Reflect on Your Leadership. Are you influencing people toward Christ or away from Him? Make adjustments where needed.
Bottom Line
You are already a leader. The real question is: Are you leading in a way that honors God? Leadership is not about how many people follow you but about how well you serve and influence them for good.
This week, lead with intentionality. Influence with integrity. And remember—your life is shaping someone else’s, whether you realize it or not.
