Welcome to the Friday Field Guide!
Hello friends.
This is an exciting week for Christians! This weekend is what we call “Palm Sunday.” Palm Sunday kicks off Holy Week. It will culminate with Good Friday (the day Jesus was Crucified) and, then Easter Sunday morning (the day of the Resurrection.) Below are a few weeks to give you more information about Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and why Jesus had to die.
What is Palm Sunday? (click here) What is Palm Sunday, and what does the Palm Sunday story have to do with Holy Week \ Passion Week? In this Palm Sunday video, Pastor Nelson with Bible Munch presents the truth about Palm Sunday history, by going to the Bible to answer the questions, what does the Bible say about Palm Sunday, and what happens on Palm Sunday.
Historians Explain The Triumphant Entry of Jesus (click here) What was it like in Jerusalem on that first Palm Sunday? In this video, Mikel Del Rosario talks with Darrell Bock and Gary Habermas about the Palm Sunday events, focusing on the historicity and significance of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. See how riding into Jerusalem was a turning point in how Jesus revealed more about his identity to followers, skeptics, and opponents.
8-Day Guide to Celebrating Holy Week (click here) For the last 1600 years, Christians around the world remember the last days of Jesus' life during Holy Week. This week is important because the last days of Jesus' life are also the days that lead to Jesus’ coronation as King. On Resurrection Sunday, Jesus is raised from the dead and enthroned over all other nations, powers, and rulers. During Holy Week, we celebrate that Jesus is the true King of the world, life, and death, just as he claimed to be.)
Why Did Jesus Have to Die? (click here) This is a message from Greg Laurie (the young guy in Jesus Revolution) speaking on this powerful topic.
Why Did Jesus Have to Die? Animation (click here) Animation. How can we keep God’s commands? How can we live without shame? We can't restore ourselves to honor. We’re doomed, except God doesn't want His creation to die. He is merciful and loving, and wants us to be restored, living with Him in full life. "He was hurt for our wrong-doing. He was crushed for our sins. He was punished so we would have peace. He was beaten so we would be healed." Isaiah 53:5
Song of the week: O Come To The Altar. My favorite line: “Oh, What A Savior! Isn’t He Wonderful! Sing Hallelujah! Christ is Risen.”
To all my RLC family...
1. Easter is Next Week. Did you know that 80% of the people who normally say no to an invite will say yes on Easter? This is the time to invite that friend or family member to church. We have three services on Easter to increase the chances they will say yes: 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00. Pick your Easter invite cards this Sunday!
2. Real Men. This week's challenge was about reading God's Word every day. To join the challenges, be sure to text "rlcMen" to 94000.
3. Read the Bible With Me. I'm trying something new. I'm reading through the Gospel of Luke and would love for you to join me. Text "rlcBible" to 94000 and I'll send you a week every morning.
2023, Let's grow DEEP and let God determine how HIGH!
