Simon Says, Love Others

“This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.”

1 John‬ ‭4:10-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When I was a kid, I use to love the game of follow the leader and it’s cousin, Simon Says. In this game, the goal was to mimic the actions of the other player as closely as possible. The only exception was that in Simon Says you only did it if the other player started by saying, “Simon Says.” For instance, they might say, “Simon Says jump up and down.” You did it. But if they just said, “Jump up and down.”… nope. This makes me think of God’s Word. When God’s Word instructs us to do something, it’s the key to how to ‘win at life.’ God wants us to prosper and grow closer to Him. If we follow His lead, He will always lead us in the right direction. It’s almost like before reading each verse you could say Simon Says. This verse is saying, “Simon Says love each other.” That’s our goal today.

  • Today, I will love because my Leader said so.
  • Today, I will love because Jesus modeled it first.
  • Today, I will love because I have been loved first.

“God, help me to follow your lead today and love others. Help me realize that I have the capacity to love the hard to love because you have loved me first. I love out of gratitude for You.”
